Various Methods Of Turban Wrapping

By Margarita Joseph

A headgear called the turban is more common in the Muslim community. It is made of long strands of cloth. The Hindu are also not left out in adorning the turbans, though some of them do this when attending occasions. More interestingly, a group of Christians in some parts of the world have integrated turban wrapping into their lives.

Like any other garment worn by man, a turban also has its variations when it comes to shape, colors, sizes and also at times patterns. Those who adorn themselves with it, do it in the belief that they are exhibiting their total commitment to their Individual higher consciousness. The piece of cloth also distinguishes them from the rest of the society.

If you are probably planning to add a turban to your wardrobe, it is better you have patience. It takes some time to put together the long pieces of cloth to a shape that is appealing to the eye. You can be creative and try out some methods said below.

To begin with, there is the Double Wide style. This style is mostly common with Punjab Indian men. It involves a lengthy piece of cloth that is divided into two, lengthwise, and joined together to make a wider turban with few wraps.

There is also the Warrior Style method. By now, from the suggestive name, you can tell there is the idea of war being related to this kind of style. Indeed, it was worn by Sikhs when heading for battle. No specific or particular measurements are required here neither is color. Simply, a knot is used to hold it to the head of the wearer and is usually placed at the front. It is quite hectic though very wearable. As stated earlier, your patience is put to the test.

Among these methods is common technique used to tie the head-dress. This is quite a usual way of doing the wrapping. At this point, one needs some clothing that has been previously starched, and make sure it is very long. It goes with a patka that is worn underneath the turban to prevent it from falling, and is commonly worn by the Sikh too.

The House style is also not left out among the various styles that one can use. Among women, the piece of clothing usually has a length of around three meters and is worn early in the morning after waking up or while exercising. At the same time, for men, the cloth is usually shorter ranging between 1.5-2 meters. This may however vary depending on personal preferences; whether there are to be one or several wraps around the head. Children are also not left out from this style of tying up, considering they also do it when playing or even when indoors. It is therefore one that is all round.

In summary, all these and many more styles can be used in turban wrapping depending on various factors. They range from religion, beliefs, purpose, gender, personal preferences, and environment among others. The color of choice be an individual is also determined by these factors.
