Usually, an artist that is mainstream today began writing or dabbling with music as a child. Many artists today seem to think that just because they have Pro Tools they can create music. There is more to music then that "One Hit Single" Being an artist includes; branding and planning. Music and hip hop require skills, talent, a team, and dedication. Just because New York artists have a show booked doesn't mean you will be successful.

Jay-Z has a net worth of over a half of a billion dollars. Sitting around $520 million I would say Jay-Z has been pretty successful with his business decisions.

They both use their own money and reinvest it to make more money in other areas then hip hop. This is detrimental to any business decision.
