How To Write Effective Comedy Play Scripts

By Rosa Koch

Nothing is really easy when you it the first time. The same goes to writing comedy play scripts. They can be very difficult especially when it is your first time to do it. Funny thoughts can sometimes be difficult to find especially when it does not come out form you naturally.

You can do it perfectly fine if you just follow simple rules that one must observe. The first thing that you need to determine is the kind of joke that you really want to impose. It is important that you just focus on one kind so you can avoid confusion. It will just hinder your audience to enjoy the story.

Keep in mind that most comedies are rooted in the principle of reversal. It means that you have to anticipate what the audience may expect in the story and then subvert it for a bigger laugh. This is considered as the most important element of the story you are about to write.

Be very specific. This is one rule you should never forget. When you mention an object with a general name, it is a lot better to mention a specific kind of that object. Use a famous but specific reference of that object that you want to mention.

The location of your story must also be written specifically. You have to incorporate ideas about things that the characters of your story can play with. Instead of saying that it just happened in a building, you can specify which part of the building it really happened. Sometimes the most ironic ones are very effective.

It is also important to remember that not all funny jokes are fun when they are all incorporated at once. Despite the laugh that a certain joke may give you, there are limitations on how you can use it. If it is not effective in the scene, you should not include it.

You have to test out the comedy play scripts that you made. Do this by asking help from your friends who can act well to do it. Also, you can ask assistance from someone that you trust who can give you honest opinions.
