How to make the Wedding Dress fit for you?

By Miracle Pan

Question: In the past 6 months, I've lost 30 pounds and about a size. I'm getting married Oct. 10, 2010, and just bought my dress (a size 18.) I still love dieting and want to keep doing it but I'm obsessing about dropping more than two sizes and my dress looking funky all taken in. Has anyone had their dresses taken in more than a size? Did it still look good or did it ruin it?

Answer: It has a lot of fabric in multiple layers and will require many hours of seamstress work. I doubt you would find a seamstress who would charge less than $300 to $400 just for labor to sew something that complex plus the materials will probably cost you $400 or more for fabric, notions and fittings, especially that lace overlay. So you would end up spending from $700 to $900 for the dress anyway and not be sure how well it would turn out. You would be better off just buying the dress already made. It is probably sewn in Central America or Asia where the labor rates are low, that is why it is so inexpensive. Only simple gowns are less costly to have made to order here in the USA.

Answer: I had a dress taken in 4 sizes before. It wore and looked fine. First look for your own alterations lady. Then tell your mom that you appreciate the offer of her alterations lady but you found one and would like to use that person. Hopefully she will understand!! Congrats on getting married and I hope things work out for you.

If you lose that much weight u may ask the dress shop to stop the dress and order it say in fib for October and try to maintain your weight from that point taking a dress in more then 1 1/2 sizes will alter the bead work and better off making a dress from scratch. My aunt is a seamstress a well known one also she worked for some high end fashion designers. And has started her own line and she tells brides every time better start from scratch.

ask your mom to take her to this seamstress and check out her work see how she works how the dresses come out look at hem lines eke of these other peoples dresses or. you take a blab dress from Japan that you spend a few dollars on and have it done see what kind of work does she do esp. get one with beads. Does she use thread that blends eke?
