Picture Perfect Memories: Photography Tips

By Misti Vanlaere Chabbez

Are you ready to get started creating your own concepts in photography? Do you have some basic knowledge to begin applying your photography concepts? Do you know what can work for your photographs? Do some research and experiment with your camera's features to find out what works well.

Digital cameras almost always have a built-in flash that will go off when the external light is too dim. For a broader flash range, get a professional camera with an external flash function. If your camera will accept an external flash (look for a "hot shoe"), a photo shop can set you up with a model to sync with your camera.

Balance is essential in photography. By balancing all the different elements in your picture, you can take better pictures. Crop out distracting elements, keep the horizon level, and make sure your subject is properly framed and not in an awkward placement.

An important factor in photography composition, is framing. To remove things that aren't relevant to your subject matter, zoom into its focal point. This prevents clutter in your pictures, and multiple unwanted, unsightly focal points.

Toying with the focus can create a more interesting photograph. Lowering the f-stop will focus on the subject of your photograph, and blur the background of the picture. This is a good photograph style to use for portrait images, as the subject is usually close to the lens. A higher f-stop number brings the whole view into focus. This can improve the scope and definition in landscape shots.

You will want to use filters which are extensions that you put onto your camera lenses. Filters alter the light entering the camera, and can create various special effects. The most common filter is the UV filter. By using a UV filter your camera lens will be protected from the harmful rays of direct sunlight. A filter can also help protect your camera lens if you accidently drop it.

Hopefully, this article has made you feel excited about trying and experimenting with these new strategies. With any luck, these can give you better results. If they aren't working for you, try new things until your skills start improving.
