Casting Calls for Commercials

By Jim Dunn

At an audition for commercials, you will see the casting directors and even possibly the producers. It's crucial that you respect everyone there and don't just kiss up to the casting directors. You never really know what role any one can play.

Casting directors at these auditions will see a lot of candidates. You should make the job of the casting directors as easy as possible. The bottom line is to be prepared and do not waste anyone's time. If you manage to piss someone off, you'll also lose your chance at that role.

Be sure you introduce yourself and have your resume and headshot on hand. You want to make sure that you have your agent's information to give to the staff at the audition and casting call place. If you don't have an agent now, note that they take about 10% from your paycheck only if they get you that job.Agents may be helpful if you don't have one. They will find you a job and won't get paid until they do. Then they will take usually around 10% of your paycheck for that job they found for you.)

The casting directors may ask you do whatever it is they want to do for the commercial. To keep on your toes, you should take an improv class so that you can think quickly. You may be asked to read lines from the commercials for the casting directors to decide if you are good for the role or not. If you are in the NY area, you can get free casting calls in New York.

Be sure to always be friendly and don't forget to smile. I wish you the best of luck in your search for TV commercial audition and hopefully I'll see you on TV soon.
