How To Choose A Jazz Guitar Amp

By Eugenia Dickerson

Most people who play guitar want to get the most from their instrument. It is not just about the instrument but also the way in which the sound is presented to the listener. One way to get people listening in the right way is to find the right jazz guitar amp that is right for the sound you want to give people.

An amp or amplifier is designed to amplify sound. This is both in a technical sense and also in terms of the quality of the sound. This may be used alongside a separate speaker or the amplifier may included in a combo package that merges both the amplifier and the speaker together.

Another practical consideration is when you are on stage. If you travel around a lot then you will probably want to keep the amount of items you have to take with you to a minimum. This is why you may a speaker and amp combo so that you do not have to carry both of them separately.

There is also the issue of the level of customisation. More experienced guitarists will often want a control panel that gives them more options. A lot of knobs will allow you to change the level of sound to your exact specifications, tweaking it until you are personally comfortable.

However if you are relatively new then it is less likely that you will want to customise your amplifier. Therefore it is better to look for a simpler brand of amplifier that produces the sound you want without having to tweak it too much. There is no right or wrong with this it is more about what works with you.

Increasingly digital options are being included. For example it is now possible to have digital reverb and modelling. Digital modelling allows you to switch between the style of sounds of different famous brands. However there is some debate as to whether or not digital is the right option or whether it does not have a suitably natural sound to suit the music.

Once you have established something that should suit you then it is best to test it. Make sure you have your guitar with you so that you can listen to how the amplifier improves the sound. If it does not improve the sound consider looking for another option that is more appropriate. You do not necessarily have to buy the amp from the store but it is a good way of learning more about the options available and how appropriate they are for your style of music.

It is worth looking online for feedback from other musicians to find the ideal jazz guitar amp. This will make it easier to make a more informed choice. Use your regular search engine to compare different options, get customer reviews or use social media to ask people what they use in order to help you find the right amp to suit how you play your guitar and the kind of sound you want to create.
