Tips For Choosing Silver Speaker Cable

By Rosalind Landry

Entertainment is a great way to pass time. Depending on what you are into, you can get an experience that will thrill you while you are whiling time away. It is also a perfect way to spend time with guests, enjoying music and movies that interest the group. Many homes are equipped with entertainment system that will maximize viewing experience. Sights are sharper and sounds are crisper all thanks to advancements that have been made in technology. To enhance function of your appliances, you will need the best component in them, and when you are in need of a silver speaker cable, choose one that is of good quality.

Speaker wires, otherwise known as zip cords are those used for electrical connection between a loudspeaker and an audio amplifier. They have electrical conductors insulated individually with plastic like PVC, Teflon or PE. These cords are electrically identical but marked so the right polarity in audio signal could be determined.

Zip cords are components that are passive and described by the electrical impedance. This is opposition which a circuit presents to electric currents. Impedance carry three properties determining performance. They are inductance, capacitance and resistance. An ideal zip cord does not have inductance, capacitance or resistance.

Resistance makes for an important specification for zip cords. Shorter lengths approach the ideal as resistance is one function of length with conductors. Resistance carries the greatest effect with performance. Performance of the conductor will be optimized by limiting the length. The longer the distance an audio signal will have to travel, the more the resistance and the more power loss created.

Lower and thicker gauge cords will offer the least of resistance thus they will have the best capacity for carrying an audio signal in a great distance. Determining the length of the cord is important then. Greater runs will require for thicker gauge wires. This would lessen strain on the receiver. For 30 foot distances, use a 12 gauge wire, 14 gauge for 18 feet and 16 gauge for ten foot distance.

The thickness or the type of insulation used on cords does not have any audible effect provided that it is of good quality and it does not react chemically with the cord. Insulators that are of poor quality increase resistance over time as they accelerate the oxidation of the conductor. You just have to make sure that it is made of good material if you want your cable to last longer.

Determine the quality of wire you want. If you have high quality components, use high quality wires too. They may be more expensive but they do deliver best sound quality, lasts longer and more resistant to interference.

Materials being used for these zip cords differ. Copper is less costly, has low resistance and is widely used as a material. Silver carries lower resistivity so thinner cords can have the same resistance as those of copper. They are much expensive compared with copper. Gold carries highest resistivity. It could be used for plating terminators.

Selecting the correct silver speaker cable makes for great quality of sound. You will be getting what you have paid for with zip cords. Good quality needs good money.
