Essential Tips For Making Handmade Couture Bow Ties

By Deborah Kennedy

You can opt to make a necktie for your man or friend during a special occasion other than buying it. You need time and the right resources to make such consideration successful. Even so, you should consider some aspects. The following are essential tips for making handmade couture bow ties to take into account.

Get the required materials first. This procedure cannot be a success unless you have the right product at hand. You can outsource some resources such as an iron, iron board and a pair of scissors from your house. Materials that you should buy include the right type of fabric and threads made out of different shades. Look for fabric that is about a quarter a yard to create a standard necktie.

Look for the right fabric. You can choose fabrics such as velvet, cotton, and silk when making a necktie. Silk is the most common material since it matches with different outfits. Velvet and cotton add a sense of class to the wearer and match with most outfits as well. Polka dot neckties are also fashionable since they correspond well with a brighter background or black colors. Ensure that the fabric that you choose adds diversity in your fashion.

Cut the pattern. You need a bow tie pattern to cut the fabrics and the interface. Most designs have a standard size hence the need to use a hard paper or a cardstock or a thick paper to scale it to the required size. The black lines on the pattern indicate the proportion of a standard wearer. You have to approximate the size of a larger scale using the black lines as you draw them on the paper.

Use the interface to cut the fabrics. The fabrics cannot remain uniform unless you iron the materials that you intend to cut. Pin the fabrics together to maintain a consistent edge while ironing. Check whether the sides are consistent and trim them to retain their uniformity before you sew them up.

Stitch the fabric and interface. Leave a one-centimeter allowance along the edges when stitching the bow tie. Fold the piece into four parts and fold both ends and have their sides meet at the center. For a much longer piece, you can fold the piece further to have the edges pointed outwards. Pinch the necktie at the center to make a crease in the middle and wrap with the knot.

Make a band with a perfect length. You can decide to make an adjustable band or a fixed one. The adjustable one is suitable for numerous neck sizes whereas the fixed one fits only its wearer. Do not stitch the edges of the non-pointed end since you will be using it to turn the band around. Iron it after setting it to maintain a perfect shape.

Look for reliable information that you can depend on when making the necktie. First timers need much longer fabrics since they end up wasting a lot of materials due to mistakes. You also need time to create the necktie to concentrate on the task with minimal interruption.
