By Eric Jimenez

People have been painting and sculpting for centuries. The use of such methods as a form of Christian art for as long as Christianity has been in existence. It has been a way for them to describe their Creator or a religious object or story to the world. It is believed to create a deeper revelation when brought to life on paper.

When the art form was being established, the intent was to show the spiritual connotation rather than more specific persons from Bible stories. This kind of art has evolved greatly throughout the years. The artwork of today have more detail on the sculptures, tapestries, drapings, and paintings available to view in the Orthodox, Protestant, and Roman Catholic churches, in major cities across the globe.

All sorts of art forms have been used by Christians since the beginning of time but some images are regarded as sacred thus not available for show. The most commonly portrayed are the paintings of the crucifixion, the apostles and the mother Mary. Also a favourite is stories of the life of Christ.

As noted in history, Christians are known to use descriptions far more than any other faith as they do not condone the use emblematic illustrations. Several popular artists throughout history have made notorious works of art that have been placed on view in places of worship, although sadly many artists didn't receive the recognition for their works. In modern times, businesses have evolved this art into a viable trade.

Many prized artworks have amazingly survived through the years and are being preserved in museums all around the world. These include priceless paintings that have been dated back to the first century. Also included are carvings that date back to the start of Christianity.

You will find many forgeries of noteworthy paintings in the world. It is important to know the difference between a copy and the authentic work of the artist. This will ensure you don't pay inflated amounts for something less valuable. You will find many of these priceless masterpieces under heavy guard in museums and in other secure sites even though some were lost during the World War.

Obtaining such art has developed into a commercial business for art enthusiasts or for individuals alike. You can find many corporations mass producing and publishing artwork in modern times. Unique art done by hand is also highly sought after but much more expensive and valuable, as it is also something very touching and personal.
