Enjoyable Card Games For Families

By Beryl Dalton

Spending time together as a family in today's fast-paced world is quite invaluable. With all the technology at our fingertips and the amount of entertainment there is easy access to, getting the family together to do something old-school can be a chore. However, these card games for families are guaranteed to be fun and have the kids begging for more family time.

Try Go Fish, which is a really popular game from back in the day that everyone can enjoy no matter what age they are. You can play with 3,4, 5 or 6 players. If there are only 4 players or less, then everyone should get seven cards each. For more than 4 players, everyone should get 5 cards.

The remainder of the cards gets put into a pile known as the 'pond'. This is the pile from which players will draw cards over the course of the game if necessary. The aim of the game is to collect the most sets of four. Each player takes a turn in asking another player for a specific card to help them make a set. If they don't have the required card, the asker is told to 'Go Fish', which means they have to take a card from the pile.

Another easy but fun card game is Memory. Other names for this game are Concentration and Pairs. As all names suggest, players must take turns to try and picking matching pairs of cards. The cards are placed face down in a random order.

If they get a pair, then they get to keep it and they get another turn. If they don't, they must return the two cards back to their original position and the next person plays. Whoever has the most pairs is the winner.

UNO is a very fun game for up to ten players. There are more than enough cards in this deck! UNO cards are unlike a regular deck of cards, as there are different signs as well as numbers and colors on each card. Each player is dealt seven cards and the rest are placed in the middle in a pile. One of the cards is turned over from the pile to start the game.

Each player has to place a corresponding number or color on top of the starting play. If the player has nothing to use, they can take from the pile and it is the next player's turn. A player can also use one of the symbol cards to switch up the order of play or to change the color of play. After a few rounds, this becomes easy to understand but also very strategic and makes for a lot of fun.

Games like these will help you and your family to bond while having fun. You can show your kids that there is a lot they can do without video games, computers and TVs. You will also be teaching them how they can entertain themselves when the power it out or even on a long trip in the car or plane.
