Tips On Abstract Digital Photography

By Angela Briggs

There are many more opportunities, in the digital age, to take a very interesting photograph. Of course, the use of digital cameras also means that you can take simple pictures, still, as well, such as holiday and vacation photos. It is, though, easier to explore abstract digital photography than it has ever been before.

You can create something that is both unique and interesting using different methods and techniques. A fascinating spin can be given to something that would usually be boring or ordinary with the use of different things. Perspective is one thing that can be played with, here.

For instance, use a different angle than you usually might to give the subject an appearance that is surprisingly different. Your goal may even be to put the focus on something that might not often be seen. The photo, for instance, could be taken from the top or the bottom. A small thing can look very large which, in turn, can bring out things that would not usually be noticed if it was seen from above.

The inverse can also be true, of course, although this is, possibly, much harder to do. Different perspectives mean that different things come into view. Texture in conjunction with distance is another thing that you can look at. The small detail is visible with a close-up, of course. One of the most fascinating things, here, is that it will eventually stop resembling itself as you are used to.

It is entirely a different object through this new view. You also, of course, have color to play with, too. Mood and tone can be manipulated through the use of color, and you can also play with things like focus, here, too. Since this is abstract, realism is not something that you have to adhere to, here, and so you can experiment. A contrast or a mood can be created, here, by matching various different tones.

You could also try applying colors that you would not usually see with this subject. Potentially, this alters the way things appear a lot. Selective focus, something that is largely specific to photography, is also something to consider, here. With this, you are able to focus on one particular area of the subject.

Maybe you would even like this to be a section of the object that would not usually get a lot of focus, and this could give it that very different appearance. This works by blurring most of the picture and giving that particular point much sharper definition. You can also use this with other things such as color. A contrasting or similar shade could be used for the background that could help manipulate the focus, further.

Shapes can also be of use, here, too. The appearances of the subject can change quite a lot with the right application of light or perspective. To highlight curves or straight lines, you can use contrasting shapes to do so. Have a look around to find different ideas for methods that can be used to make the unique photos you want to with abstract digital photography.
