Oil Paintings Are The Ideal Items To Start Your Art Collection

By Krish Sivilia

Do you know what oil paintings are? Using pigments bounded with a medium of drying oil in painting results to what we now know as oil paintings. The many beautiful works of art that has graced the greatest halls in history to the most modest homes is a result of mixing these pigments altogether. Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa is only one of the many famous works that classify as oil paintings. Other famous creators of the most notable oil paintings in history include Claude Monet, Pierre Auguste Renoir, Rembrandt, Vincent Van Gogh and Raphael.

Ask any art collector about how to get started on building up your own collection and most often than not, they would only have one common answer:buy oil paintings. You wouldn't be blamed if you immediately think you want a Monet, a Rembrandt, or a Van Gogh painting. However, unless you are one of the world's wealthiest people, the only way you can have a Monet or Renoir oil painting is to have a reproduction of them. Even if you settle for reproductions, you would still probably find them on the pricey side.

Do not let that stop you, however. There are a lot of noteworthy oil paintings out there that you can buy. Oil paintings made by local talents could be scored in some smaller art galleries. You never know, you might buy the work of an artist who will be such a huge name in the art scene in the future and you can boast about having one of his earliest paintings.

If you have a little money to burn, you can attend auctions. You can see a lot of talent in art competitions so they are also a good place to start looking at oil paintings that might catch your eye.

Oil paintings are also often taken pictures of and uploaded in some of the many sites where unknown artists post their works of art for sale. The number of online art galleries that make it their mission to expose the world to various types of oil paintings from all over the world is increasing. With their help, an art lover from the West could easily get an oil painting by an artist from the East with the least amount of fats.

However, when buying online, you should be careful that you are not buying fake paintings or that the paintings will get to you in poor condition. Conduct some research to reassure yourself that the online art gallery you are choosing is safe and will deliver as promised.

Do not buy oil paintings simply because they are the cheapest, or they look the best when the photos are posted online. You should base your decision on many factors such as the colors, the design, the message, including your passion and eye for art. Soon enough, you will be an oil painting connoisseur and know exactly which ones are worth buying and which are to be ignored.
