How To Set Up A Mole Trap

By Brenda Bennett

Moles are known to be the most destructive pests when they attack a farm or a compound. They are small in size and they usually move underground. Their habitat is in the ground, which they make by digging tunnels as they move. They are very destructive to vegetation since they feed on leaves, fruits and roots among others. For one to eliminate these moles, a mole trap is the best method to deploy.

Moles not only feed on plants but also on different varieties of insects. The most favorite meal for moles is insects. Moles therefore find it more favorable to stay on compounds inhabited by insects. Examples of insects they feed on include termites and ants. They cause land destruction by digging several tunnels through the landscape.

There are several ways of destroying moles. One can use chemicals or hunting in order to destroy them. Chemicals usually go hand in hand with baits. Whenever the moles feed on food contaminated with poison, they eventually die. People who have no time of using other methods, usually use chemicals. The use of chemicals can be more effective. However, the use of chemicals is not recommended.

Removing of sources of food from the field is also another method. This makes them to lack what to feed on. This may starve them to death. Thus, they may move to other places in search of food. This method is better off but one has also to make sure that the insects never return to avoid attracting moles again.

The use of mole traps is the best way of eradicating these pests. The traps are usually set at a place where the moles frequently move to. It is important for one to check on the traps severally once the are set. The mole should be removed from the trap whenever it is caught. This will provide some space for another trap to be set.

There are several types of traps in existence today. The various types of traps work in different ways. Some are simple in the way they are made, while others are very sophisticated. The simple models can be set easily without the need of any special skills. Sophisticated traps usually need some level of experience and expertise to set them well.

The cost of a trap is usually determined by the level sophistication in it. They may cost a lot of money in some cases. Different stores sell these traps at different prices. Therefore, one has to compare the prices from different stores before buying. It is usually to do price comparison before buying anything.

Several benefits are related to the use of traps for the eradication of moles. For starters, they are long lasting. This means that one can use traps without being depleted. The device can be economical in the long term although the initial cost might be higher. The trap is also advantageous in that it can be used in one place for a long time.
