What To Consider When Designing Photo Gifts

By Betty Collins

Many people use photographs to document the lives of their friends and relatives. If you know that there is a particular picture that is special to them, you may want to consider giving them one of the many photo gifts that are available today. Here are some tips and pointers that you can use to make selecting these items as quickly and inexpensively as possible.

It is much simpler and more affordable to have images printed on items. In previous years it was difficult to take a photo from a negative and put it on an item. Now, with the rise in digital photography it is much easier and much less expensive to have images printed on different items or turned into things like calendars.

Often the biggest challenge that someone will have is trying to figure out which picture to use. You may have many to go through and choosing one specific image may be very difficult for you to do. You may want to pick an image of the person who will get the item or choose one that features someone significant to that person. The reason you are giving the gift may also help influence which image you will use.

One obvious choice is to put significant pictures into an album. This can be one with photos printed directly onto the pages or one with spaces where printed pictures can be slipped inside for storage. If you know that the recipient does not have a lot of room to store an album you may want to look at getting a digital frame that will display a series of pictures. These can often have additional images added to them.

The amount that an item will get used is something to think about. If it is used a lot it can end up wearing out or fading much more quickly than you might want. For example, a person who loves coffee may like a mug that has an image printed on it but it may fade if it is washed day after day.

If you know that someone uses a computer, you might want to consider putting a photo on a mouse pad or other computer accessory. Most images will work well in this way because a mouse pad is a flat object that is roughly the same shape as a photograph.

Calendars make great gifts that are easy to add photos to. Keep in mind that you will need to choose a series of pictures. Usually, if you are creating a wall calendar you will need at least twelve images if you want a flip-style calendar. You can also choose a desk model or one that acts as a perpetual date keeper. Any of these options are helpful and beautiful choices.

Finding someone who can produce the gift is not hard. Often, local printing companies may be able to help you design your item and then know where to have it printed so that you end up with a quality product. If you cannot find anyone in your area or if the cost is too high you may want to consider going to an online company in order to have your gift made for you. Always ask for a complete breakdown of cost so that you are not stuck with a higher bill than you expected.
