Questions Every Aspiring Actor Should Ask

By Jennifer Marie Anderson

There's no denying the fact that acting can be nothing short of rewarding. I am sure that many others can attest to this sentiment, especially when there is such a broad degree of knowledge to cover. With that said, you may be curious to know questions to ask at the onset. After all, it's the best way that anyone can learn. For those who are thirsty for knowledge, and would like to quench said thirst, here are just a few you should ask.

"In acting, what stands as the most vital component?" This is probably one of the first questions to ask, and for good reasons. The most basic answer would probably have to be, "Whatever it is you have to improve the most." For example, if you're someone who isn't very loud or vocal, projection may be something to work on. Memorization may be another factor if you have trouble remembering lines. Focus on your shortcomings, all the while highlighting your strengths in acting.

"What tools can help me improve?" To put it simply, there are several acting tools that can improve your work in the long term. The Meisner technique, for instance, is built on the idea of repetition. A duo of actors will respond to each other with a repeated phrase, which has its benefits in terms of flexibility and memorization alike. Even though this may come across as an unorthodox way to teach aspiring actors, it is beneficial all the same.

"Are there ways to ace auditions?" When it comes to auditions, it's easy to see that there is a level of challenge which exists. Anyone who's been involved in this field will agree, but there are ways to get the most out of every opportunity possible. One of the best ways to get involved is by showcasing confidence, whether it's in smiling, allowing your voice to remain strong, or what have you. When you exercise the confidence in question, without going too far, it's likely that your chances of success will increase.

Hopefully these questions can help you better understand how to become a better actor or actress. You want to get involved in theater, as well as behind the screens others can watch, all the while portraying characters in unique stories. Even though your ability may be shaky, at the onset, this doesn't mean that you'll be unable to improve. It's just a matter of asking questions, absorbing the knowledge given, and putting it to use throughout your studies and life in general.
