According to the famous Swiss psychiatrist Jung, there are three components of the psyche, the ego and personal and collective unconscious. Jung recognizes numerous archetypes, but these main twelve are the most important ones archetypes Jung introduced to the world. They are actually sub-types of the Ego, the Self and the Soul. Every character combines different archetypes, in various combinations, and no one belongs only to one.
These basic archetypes cannot be learned or adopted, people are simply born this way. These predispositions shape their experiences and the vision of the world. These are really the elementary structures, the models of collective unconscious. Although they cannot be measured scientifically, they are still recognizable, and everything on this world is shaped accordingly.
The Ego contains four basic types, and some have numerous other names. The Innocent may be called naive, or sometimes a dreamer. This is optimistic type, positive, happy and wants to be free. The Orphan, for example, can sometimes be described as a solid citizen, or a good old boy. He is a good guy, always wanting to be surrounded by people and connected with them, realistic, positive and emphatic.
The Hero is another Ego type. This one is often arrogant, but courageous, strong and mostly the team player. It is often called the crusader, soldier, winner and rescuer. The Caregiver loves all other people and desires to help and please them. Often called the saint, and sometimes parent, helper or supporter. His greatest desire is to do something for others. Finds his reason of existence in helping others.
Different Soul types include the Explorer, highly individualistic and always trying to find something new and exciting to explore. Wanderer and pilgrim, the Explorer is always seeking out and experiencing new things. The Rebel has one simple rule in his life. The rules are made to be broken. His wild character and shocking behavior may push him over to a dark side. Known as revolutionary, wild man or iconoclast.
The Lover only wants to be loved and to please others. He desires intimacy and doesn't want to be left alone. I his desire to please others may lose his own identity. Sometimes known as sensualist ad enthusiast. The Creator is one imaginative dreamer. He has a vision and a strong desire to realize it. He is perfectionist, often called visionary, artist or creator. Dedicated to creating something.
Self types include the Jester, the Sage, the Magician and the Ruler. The Jester lives today, and doesn't care about tomorrow. The life suppose to be lived, and he wants to seize the moment. He is also called the Joker, and sometimes the comedian. The Sage lives his life searching, exploring and analyzing everything. Usually really intelligent, this person lives thinking and planning every single thing.
The Magician is in a search for secrets of the Universe. Versatile, sometimes called the Medicine Man, the healer or the Shaman. He has his own vision of the world, and usually lives accordingly. The Ruler needs to control the world around him, as well as all the people i this world. Aristocrat, administrator and natural leader.
